Wow, there wasn't any of that fancy stuff when I had a bike (upwards of 20 years ago). Sure would have been more comfortable.

<font face="georgia">Went for a group ride today. First and formost, the heated grips <u>do</u> make a difference. It was overcast, threatening rain, and quite cool. Learned that I can lean the bike around corners a whole lot more than I thought I could. Nice ride from the bay to the ocean and back on twisty roads. Thought I was in a group above my level, but turns out it was just right. Just a little bit of a challenge, as it turns out. One guy, riding for just a year, (he's 62 now), was somewhat taken aback when I told him I'd been riding for just a little over a week. I guess my head is in the right place...
Nothing else heated (yet). Actually had to turn off the heat once on the grips, and they were on the low setting (!). I did get an armored jacket this weekend, so all that's left is the riding pants...and maybe heated things as needed. With a faring, though, most of the elements are shoved away from you, so I guess I'll see on what other needs come up. And, (dammit!) it's supposed to rain tonight and maybe tomorrow. Guess the car will see some use this week. Freeway riding, night riding, curvy roads? No problem. Rain? Maybe in a few months...

Ah YEs...the good ole days of riding a motor cycle. I certainly miss it. Dont miss the 2 crashes I had though. (caution...never where cordoroys when riding a bike. If you fall off...there wont be much left of them). I definatley recomend the armored outfits. If you get in an accident, atleast you will be a lot less scraped up.

I'm trying to get as much riding in as I can before the snow hits here in Chicago. I've ridden in the rain before, not by choice, just one of those days where it was nice in the morning but changed by late afternoon. I stayed nice an dry since I always carry a rain suit with me in my saddle bags. Just one of the many "extras" to get when you ride.
I'm glad you had a good time on your group ride Wizz. I ride with a couple of groups myself and always have a great time.

Nope, no motorcycle. Getting back on the highway is going to be hard enough when I am surrounded by metal. I have to get my nerve back.
Mind you, I have highway nerves. I developed them on route 128 and route 3 going from southern MA to southern NH when I commuted with my dad. He made me drive at least once a week so he would feel comfortable that I could do it alone when he was away on business. But the motocycle will have to wait for a while.
As will trips to Erie, PA. I used up all my vacation on Erie and Stratford and the Jewish holidays this year. As much as I miss you, Bee, I ain't driving to Erie to give you a hug, sleep and drive right back.
I have heard nothing from the car and insurance people. I certainly hope nothing is stuck in a sorting facility with anthrax, but I won't start worrying until the middle of next week.
Let's see...what else...I finished my application to the graduate tax program at NYU on Friday and mailed it from the post office in the university's zip code on Saturday. The university has acknowledged receipt of the application, but my law school still hasn't sent them my transcript. Assuming it gets to NYU in the next week or two, I don't think they will penalize me for the transcript being a little late. And then I just have to wait for the decision...sigh...I hate waiting.
Oh, and my holiday shopping is moving right along. My brother mentioned on the phone that he really needed some clothes and was going to place an order to Land's End. I quickly ordered him an electronic gift cetificate. He gets exactly what he needs without feeling guilty about having to spend money he hasn't got. He doesn't have to go through the embarrassment of being taken shopping by mom when he goes to visit California. Mom doesn't feel like she has to take him shopping or give him money to buy clothes. I get to be finished with my Hannukah shopping for him (I already have some silly stuff that should be good for a laugh). All around good deal.
Hope all your plans for Thanksgiving are going well. I am looking forward to Vermont and the kids this year like you wouldn't believe. Joey is 5 now and Jacob is 2. I want to read them stories and give presents and play with trucks and trains and blocks and everything. :-)

The Master posted a note a short while back saying he was having... um... difficulties with the people running the server the site is located on. Maybe this bandwidth problem is a symptom.
